Comprehensive Eye Examinations
At your appointment, Dr. Keefer will get acquainted with you and your eyes by reviewing your current symptoms as well as your medical and ocular history. The comprehensive eye examination that follows includes not only the measurement of vision, but may also determine the health of the eye in order to diagnose conditions or diseases that might interfere with your vision.
The components and cost of the examination vary depending on your age, the date of your last exam, your family medical history and the nature of your eye problem.
Most health insurances divide eye examinations into two categories: Routine and Medical Eye Examinations.
A Routine Eye Examination is a complete eye examination where Dr. Keefer will establish that the eyes and visual system are healthy, and, if necessary, will determine a glasses or contact lens prescription. In this type of examination, there is usually no other ocular diagnosis or problem except those relating to a glasses or contact lens prescription, such as nearsighted, farsighted, or astigmatism.
A Medical Eye Examination is performed when there is either a medical diagnosis of the eyes or visual system, such as cataract, glaucoma, retinal problems, or dry eye, or if there is an overall medical diagnosis which might affect the eyes, such as diabetes or hypertension. A Medical Eye Examination may also be a follow-up of a previously diagnosed medical condition. Prescriptions for glasses or contact lenses may also be determined during this type of exam.
The cost of an exam begins at $85. We will submit exams to your insurance company, and accept cash, checks, Visa, and Mastercard as forms of payment.

We have many options available for sunglasses, such as Ray Ban and Nike, or options where we can order polarized lenses for your current frame. We'll make sure to help you choose the protection you need to fit your budget and lifestyle.
Eye Diseases
If you are diagnosed with an eye disease, you want only the best treatment available, which is exactly what we offer. Based on your diagnosis, we may recommend a wide variety of approaches. Whatever approach we recommend for your eye care, you can be assured that your vision health is our primary concern.
If you are a patient diagnosed with diabetes, it is necessary to have a dilated fundus examination each year. Patients with macular degeneration should be seen once a year, or more, as necessary.

Following a thorough exam, we'll discuss the different lens types and brands with you and advise you about the lens choices that are best for your eyes.
We have a wide selection of contacts available at our office and fit patients with many different types of contact lenses, including spheric, toric, bifocal, and gas permeable lenses. Our trained staff will teach you how to properly clean and wear your new contact lenses to maximize vision and minimize potential risks.

New Technology
Our new technology allows for a diagnosis to be given the same day as an exam and for problems to be noticed early-on. This equipment allows for progress to be tracked between each appointment.
Some of the instrumentation we use includes: Humphrey Visual Field Analyzer, HRT 2 Scanning Laser Ophthalmoscope, Digital Fundus and Slit Lamp Photography, and our newest addition, The Foresee Preferential Hyperacuity Perimeter (PHP), a diagnostic aid for detecting and monitoring the progression of Age-related Macular Degeneration.

If you are interested in refractive surgery, contact our office and set up a consultation visit with Dr. Keefer to discuss your options. He will help you find the best doctor available, and give you helpful information about the procedure.
